Privacy Policy

The short version: your Bluetooth link and alerting happen directly on your phone. We collect your email address and blood glucose (BG) data solely to deliver trend calculations, alerts, and optional caregiver sharing. We do not sell, rent, monetize, or share this info with anyone outside of Ahead, AheadBLE, and aheadt1d.com. There are no advertisements, data brokers, or third-party tracking scripts in any of the apps.

Who we are

Ahead (“we”) is an independent project built by Ryan Singer in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. It includes three Android apps — AheadBLE, Ahead and Ahead Lite — and this website, aheadt1d.com. Contact: hello@aheadt1d.com.

What each app does with your data

• AheadBLE has no account and never sends your readings to us or anyone else. It pairs with your Dexcom G7 over Bluetooth itself (no other app needed) and saves each reading to Android’s Health Connect on your phone. It includes Google’s ML Kit barcode scanner, used to read the pairing code on your sensor applicator, which — like other apps that use ML Kit — can send anonymous performance diagnostics to Google; that is why Android lists an Internet permission for AheadBLE. No glucose data is ever involved.
• Ahead reads your glucose from Health Connect (put there by AheadBLE, the official Dexcom app, or Juggluco — whichever you use). The analysis, projections, and alerts run entirely on your phone, so life-critical alerts do not depend on our server or an internet connection. When you choose to sign in, Ahead also syncs your readings to your Ahead account so you can share with loved ones or caregivers.
• Ahead Lite is for people following someone else. It signs in to your account and securely downloads readings only from the specific people who have chosen to share with you. It doesn’t use Bluetooth or Health Connect.

What we collect and store

Only if you create an account:

• Email address & account details: your email address, an optional display name, and your password (stored only as a secure salted hash via bcrypt, never in readable plain text), plus timestamps of account creation and last sign-in.
• Blood glucose (BG) readings: glucose values and timestamped reading dates uploaded by Ahead to enable cloud backups, trend detection, and follower synchronization.
• Sharing authorization: who you have explicitly chosen to share with (or who has shared with you), enforced server-side so followers can only see the people who invited them.
• Authorized device & viewer keys: unique cryptographically generated keys for each phone or caregiver authorized on your account, so access can be revoked individually at any time.
• Security & rate-limiting telemetry: sign-in attempts (email provided, IP address, timestamp, success/failure status) to protect your account against credential guessing and brute-force attacks.
• Email tokens: single-use, cryptographically hashed tokens with short expiration windows for email verification and password resets.

We do not collect your GPS location, phone contacts, photos, microphone audio, or biometric identifiers. AheadBLE only requires camera permission locally on your device to scan the pairing barcode on the sensor applicator; no images or video are ever stored or uploaded.

Who we share with

Nobody outside of Ahead, AheadBLE, and aheadt1d.com. We never sell, rent, lease, or disclose your personal or health data to commercial third parties, data aggregators, ad networks, pharmaceutical companies, or insurance providers.

Your glucose data is only shared with individuals whom you explicitly designate via in-app sharing (Menu → Account → Manage Sharing) or via secure viewer keys. You retain full control to revoke access instantly at any time.

Infrastructure providers

We use trusted cloud infrastructure providers strictly to host and deliver the service:

• Railway hosts our application backend.
• Supabase hosts our encrypted PostgreSQL database.
• Resend delivers transactional emails (verification and password reset).
• Cloudflare delivers this website and protects downloads against attacks.
• Google Fonts provides website typography; the apps bundle fonts locally and do not contact Google Fonts.

These infrastructure providers process data solely on our behalf to operate the service under strict confidentiality obligations. We do not sell your data to them, and we do not permit them to use your data for advertising, profiling, or machine learning training.

Google Health Connect & Limited Use Policy

Ahead's use and transfer of information received from Google Health Connect adheres to the Google Health Connect Permissions Policy, including the Limited Use requirements:

• Health data is used exclusively to provide user-facing features of Ahead (real-time glucose tracking, rate-of-change mathematics, and safety alerts).
• Health data is never transferred to third parties except as necessary to provide Ahead services (such as encrypted cloud storage for your account), to comply with applicable laws, or with your explicit consent.
• Health data is never used or transferred for serving advertisements, retargeting, or interest-based advertising.
• Health data is never used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending or insurance purposes.

How long we keep your data

Readings are stored while your account remains active so you and your followers have continuous history. When you delete your account, your user profile, all stored glucose readings, device keys, and sharing links are deleted immediately and permanently. Security log entries regarding sign-in attempts are retained temporarily for diagnostic protection and are unlinked from your account.

Your choices & data deletion

• Reset your password: you can request a password reset link anytime from the app login screen or online at aheadt1d.com/reset-password.html.
• Delete your account & data: in Ahead, open Menu → Account → Delete account and confirm your password. This immediately and permanently deletes your account and all associated health data.
• Web deletion request: if you don't have the app installed, email hello@aheadt1d.com from your registered address and we will wipe your account and all associated readings within 48 hours.
• Stop sharing: remove any follower or caregiver at any time in Manage Sharing.
• Use without an account: AheadBLE operates 100% locally on your phone without an account or internet connection.

Security

We protect accounts with salted bcrypt password hashing, expiring authentication tokens, strict rate limits, and encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections. Device and viewer keys allow granular revocation of lost phones or former caregivers without changing your master password.

Children's privacy

Ahead is not intended for unsupervised use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. A parent or guardian may set up and manage an account to monitor their child's diabetes care.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes affecting your rights or how health data is handled, we will notify active account holders via email.

Terms of Use

By ticking the “I agree” boxes before a download, by downloading, installing or using Ahead, AheadBLE or Ahead Lite, or by using this website, you agree to these terms.

Ahead is a second tool — not your primary CGM

• Ahead, AheadBLE and Ahead Lite are meant to be a second set of eyes alongside your official CGM system — never a replacement for it. They are not designed, tested or supported as the primary way of using a Dexcom G7.
• You must keep your official CGM app or receiver, and its alarms, running as your primary means of monitoring and alerting. Do not turn off, mute, ignore or stop using your official alarms because Ahead is installed.
• Ahead can fail without warning — because of your phone, battery settings, Bluetooth, the sensor, an update, a bug, or anything else. If Ahead fails, your official setup must still be able to alert you without it. You are responsible for setting that up and for testing it.
• We haven’t tested, and can’t promise, that Ahead works alongside every official app, receiver, phone or sensor. Some setups may not be able to run both at once. If yours can’t, don’t use Ahead in a way that leaves you without your primary alerts, and check with your care team or the sensor’s maker.
• Never rely on Ahead alone — for example while you sleep, drive, exercise, or if you have hypoglycemia unawareness. If Ahead disagrees with your official CGM or a fingerstick, trust your official CGM and the fingerstick.

Ahead is not a medical device

• Ahead is a monitoring companion and research project for information and awareness. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA or any regulator.
• It does not replace your CGM’s own alarms, your receiver, your insulin delivery system, or your care team’s advice.
• It never tells you how much insulin to take or what to eat. Projections are estimates from glucose readings alone and don’t know about insulin, food or activity. If you’re unsure about a reading, confirm it (for example with a fingerstick) before acting.
• Alerts are best-effort. Android, Bluetooth, your sensor, your battery settings and the internet can all delay or block them. Keep another way of being alerted.
• You are responsible for your own diabetes care and for decisions made using what you see. If someone you follow is in trouble, don’t rely on an app — call them or get help.

Beta software

Ahead is early beta software built and tested by one person. The downloads on this site are development (“debug”) builds shared directly, not store releases. Features can change, break or disappear, and the service may be interrupted or shut down. We’ll do our best, but there’s no guarantee.

Your account and how you use it

• Give us accurate information and keep your password safe. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.
• The main account in Ahead should belong to the person living with Type 1. Companion accounts in Ahead Lite are for people following them.
• Only share your data with people you trust, and only follow someone who has chosen to share with you. Don’t try to access anyone’s data without their invitation.
• Don’t attack, overload, reverse-engineer for harm, or try to break into the service or other people’s accounts. We may disable accounts or devices that do.

Assumption of risk and release

Managing diabetes involves real risk, and software can fail. By downloading, installing or using Ahead, AheadBLE or Ahead Lite, you accept any and all risks of doing so — known or unknown, foreseeable or not — including the risk that a reading, projection, alert or notification is late, wrong or missing, or that the software doesn’t work at all.

To the fullest extent the law allows, you release Ryan Singer and the Ahead project (together, “we”) from all claims for injury, illness, death, property damage or other loss connected to your use of the apps, the website or the downloads, and you agree not to bring such claims against us — including claims about missed, delayed or incorrect alerts. This doesn’t release anything the law says can’t be released.

No warranty

To the fullest extent the law allows, the apps, the website and the service are provided “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We don’t promise that an alert will arrive, arrive on time, or be correct.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable to you for anything related to Ahead or its downloads — including injury, lost data, and any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages — and our total liability is limited to $0. The apps are free, so you haven’t paid us anything. If a court decides that $0 isn’t allowed where you live, our total liability is instead limited to $100, the smallest amount that court will accept. Nothing here limits rights that can’t be waived under the law where you live.

If a claim comes back to us

If your misuse of the apps — for example accessing someone’s data without their permission, or breaking these terms or the law — leads to a claim against us, you agree, to the extent the law allows, to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.

Dexcom, unofficial software and trademarks

Ahead isn’t affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by Dexcom, Inc. “Dexcom” and “G7” are trademarks of Dexcom, Inc. AheadBLE talks to your sensor using unofficial software. The sensor’s maker doesn’t support it, and using it may affect your sensor’s warranty, support or performance. If you’re unsure, check with the sensor’s maker and your care team first.

Emergencies

Ahead can’t call for help and isn’t an emergency service. If you or someone you follow may be in danger, call your local emergency number (911 in the US).

Young people

If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must read and agree to these terms for you and is responsible for your use of Ahead.

Agreeing to these terms

You agree to these terms by ticking the “I agree” boxes before a download, by installing or using the apps, or by using this website. Each time you download, we ask you to confirm (including that you understand Ahead is only a second tool), and a note of which app you accepted and when is saved in your browser.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, except where the law where you live requires otherwise.

If part of this doesn’t hold up

If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.

Changes and ending

We may update these terms, and we may suspend or end the service. You can stop using Ahead and delete your account at any time.

Software licenses

• AheadBLE is free software under the GNU General Public License v3 (GPLv3). It builds on the open-source Dexcom G7 protocol work of the Juggluco project and its contributors, with thanks. Its source code and license text are being published at github.com/NootedNoot/ahead-ble.
• Ahead and Ahead Lite are © 2026 Ryan Singer. During the beta you may install and use them for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please don’t redistribute them or sell them.
• This website’s text and design are © 2026 AheadT1D.
